A full safari that introduces you to the pristine and remote destinations in the well-known Nsefu sector of South Luangwa. This unique area and carefully selected accommodations will not make you bored. This trip means 7 days of optimal enjoyment of pure wildlife safari combined with relax, day trips, braai and evening stories around the campfire. You will spend 5 nights on the Katunula Islands. A new safari camp between the Luangwa and Lupande rivers. Opened in 2022, the camp offers a unique location, well-maintained chalets and the showers inside the chalets have an open sky connecting you direct to sun or moon and stars. The local culture and traditions will not pass you by either. And be prepared, because this location offers you one of the best panoramic views at the Luangwa river in the valley. From here you can also book various day trips in Kakumbi, such as a Village tour, Mulberry Mongoose and the souvenir markets. The last 2 nights we take you even deeper into the wilderness of Nsefu. Zikomo safari lodge is well known on the Luangwa River. From here you can enjoy beautiful game drives that start through the Monjoti gate. Here you will find yourself almost alone in the park and get the feeling of a private safari. After the game drive you can take a dip in the pool and enjoy the great hospitality here.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Zambia and Mfuwe
Day 1 and 2 After arrival at Lusaka KK airport you will be received by our local representative and you will fly on to Mfuwe. After arrival in Mfuwe you will be brought to your accommodation. This is a transfer of about 40 minutes on a fun and adventurous road that first takes you through the interesting habitats of the local population and along remote villages and small farms where everything is being Once at South Luangwa NP you will be dropped off at the Katunula Islands bushcamp.
Day 2 Katunula Islands bushcamp
Katunula Islands bushcamp is located on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the vast sandy Hippo beaches. The first day start with coffee or thee. In the mornings before 06:00hrs you will be taken early for game drives in the park. During the day time you will stay and relax at the camp or go for a short activity. In the afternoon you are prepared for exciting nightdrives. After the nightdrives you will be recieved at the camp to have dinner or braai at the campfire and when lucky accompanied by traditional dancers and music.

The following days you can have the same activities but in totally different directions with new experiences taking place. Its amazing that you see what you couldnt manage to see the previous day and night.
Day 3 - 6 South Luangwa NP (Nsefu Area)
Day 3 we will take you towards north luangwa in Nsefu sector where you be able to see big game, visit the hot springs and beautiful sunrise .On this route sudden bumping into animals like buffaloes and zebras including warthog may be common and hence the need to put your cameras ready for historical photo shoot. The dressing must be dull colours like khaki or green wear and carry spare batteries for your cameras or phone as it is a days trip with bush mobile breakfast including lunch break is all deep in savannah woodlands.

Day 5 After previous tiresome hot springs tour you are now able to wake up by the sunrise at the bushcamp. Have your early hot showers and breakfast at 08hrs before you go for the village tour at 08:30hrs. Who to visit and what to see? You see and visit communities and local green markets. You can interact with the villagers around and feel free to ask questions from your guide even the Mfuwe residence themselves as they are warm and friendly Zambians. Plan a visit to Mulberry Mongoose, Project Luangwa and Tribal Textiles or some of the local shopping centres that help conservation in the area.
Day 6 - 8 Zikomo Safari Lodge (Nsefu Area)
Day 6 and 7 sees you change accomodations to new lodging aread within the valley. The stay will be absolutely amazing in your new home with different activities like walking safaris and even a bush spa orgarnized for you if you booked in advance. You will go swimming in well preserved waters of the valley if you are funny of a dolphin!! Apart from going for a day drive in the park you may choose to visit nature tourism on ‘The Gap’. This unique place away from the park and deep in the GMA (Game Management Area). Here you will take a hike to the 3 rivers that cut the huge mountains. This hike takes you to the late stone age caves and paintings by the bushmen before they migrated to the present day Kalahari desert. As you stand at the bottom of the mountain and the rivers Msandile, Lutembwe and Kaphsla rivers joining you be able to see birds, small rodents and baboons. Sometimes the jackals and porcupines and bush pigs can also be spotted at dawn. Still to see further down in Chikowa 14km from the gap is Kabilubilu Waters meaning boiled water from the rocks, another hot springs which is hidden like unexplored. The nearby village, home of zambia first lady Betty Kaunda the wife to first zambian president Dr kenneth kaunda posthumous. Day 8 will be the last stay around the only self sustainable park in the world as declared by UNWTO some few yrs ago.
Day 9 - 10 Departure
The tour on day 9 is a a long drive to Livingstone via LSK and blue lagoon with 2 night stop overs befire you touch the great Victoria Falls, Mosi o Tunya NP and night live of Livingstone. Several activities are alighned for you as you stay at Maramba River Lodge away from the hustles and bustles of the city. Dr Livingstone meusium is a place to go after the falls. A flight back via Hurry Mwanga Nkumbula in Livinstone to Lsk and back home is and ideal or giests may wish to extend another 4 days into Botswana by road before flying back home.
